This morning we went to downtown Amman and saw the Roman theater and Odeon. We showed a little school spirit and sang the BYU Fight song and took a sweet picture of us in the shape of a Y (like the Freshman Orientation picture—I still need to get this picture from someone!).
Can you tell what we're spelling? |

Our last site was the Bethany/Bethabara Beyond Jordan
baptismal site where Jesus was baptized. It’s not the actual sight because the
Jordan River changes course every year, but it’s still amazing to think that
somewhere within the vicinity our Savior Jesus Christ, the only perfect being
to walk this Earth, was baptized to fulfill all righteousness and set the path
for us to follow. John the Baptist is becoming one of my favorite people in the
New Testament. When Christ came to Bethabara, John the Baptist’s first words
were: “Behold the Lamb…” (John 1:29). John was always pointing others to
Christ when he could’ve taken a lot of the credit for the work he was doing.
John also said that “[Christ] must increase and I must decrease,” and to me
that shows that John knew who Christ was. He knew that He was the Son of God,
come to redeem all mankind. I’m grateful for John the Baptist, my Savior, and
my own baptism many years ago! What a blessing it is to be a member of this
church.
After a long "adventure" through Israeli border patrol, we eventually made it back to Jerusalem. It's good to be home!
Wow kel, thanks for telling about john the baptist. what a selfless, righteous man. how amazing that must have been to stand in the same waters that our Savior was baptized!
